Q: What is the Rebate Program?
The Penn State DuBois Rebate Program has been developed to help assist students and families with the cost of tuition.
Rebates accrued by your gift certificate order will be added to your account. At the end of the semester, this money will be transferred to the Finance Office for your use during the next semester or held in your account to be used at an agreed upon date.
Q: How does the Rebate Program work?
The Penn State DuBois Rebate Program allows us to purchase gift certificates, also called SCRIP, at a discount and sell them to you for full face value, creating a rebate on the difference.
That difference is applied to your account. The accumulated funds in your rebate account will be paid out the following semester or held in your account to be used at an agreed upon date.
You WILL NOT be spending more than what the certificate is worth. If you purchase $100 worth of gift cards/certificates, your rebate account is credited with the percentage offered by that company.
A great example is the Book Store on the DuBois campus, it is owned by Barnes & Noble. Barnes & Noble offers a rebate, so if you buy your gift certificates from the Rebate program first and then buy your books from the Book Store, you earned money in your Rebate account.
Q: Can other people help me earn Rebates?
Yes, other family members and friends may purchase certificates and designate the Rebates to your account. This is a great opportunity for grandparents and other family members to help with your cost of college.
Q: When can I start earning Rebates?
It is never too early to start saving for college. Students and families can start participating in the Rebate Program years before they head to Penn State DuBois. An account can be established in the family name at any time and rebates can be stored to use toward their tuition when the time comes to enroll.
Q: Can I use this rebate toward “Dual Enrollment” classes?
Yes! Rebates can be used for your Dual Enrollment classes. If there is a balance on your final bill, your rebates will automatically be transferred from your account and be applied to your bill. If, after your bill has been paid, you have rebates remaining in your rebate account, you may apply those rebates to the initial payment for your next semester. You must notify the Rebate Coordinator and request the transfer for the rebates to be applied as an initial payment.
Q: Can I buy certificates if I do not know anyone enrolled at the DuBois Campus?
Yes, you may sign up and earn Rebates even if you do not know anyone enrolled at the DuBois Campus. You may use it for yourself or someone close to you at a later date or direct your Rebates to the General Fund, this fund will help students that are in need of additional aid.
Q: How do I sign up?
You can download the necessary forms and the list of Vendors that participate from the Penn State DuBois website, or stop into the Rebate office to get started today. Remember to tell other family members about the program; they can buy certificates and help your Rebate account grow.
This is free money, when you buy groceries, gas, eat out or buy gifts for others, please consider purchasing the certificates from the Rebate Office.
