PSU DuBois wrestlers defeat PSU Beaver

Penn State DuBois defeated PSU Beaver in a home wrestling match 53-3, it was the first dual meet in school history for the Beaver campus. Beaver started the season with 13 wrestlers, but were only able to send 4 wrestlers to the mat Wednesday night against DuBois. Athletic Coordinator, Ken Nellis acknowledges the difficulties of starting a new program “growing pains and having students commit to the team are a struggle sometimes when starting a new team.” Beaver Coach Jeff Winkle has 3 wrestlers with injuries and was notified earlier in the day that a wrestler quit the team earlier in the day.
In contested matches, DuBois won 3 out of the 4 bouts. 149lbs. Kasey Haines defeated Beaver’s Dylan Winkle by Tech. Fall 15-0, 165lbs. Garret Singer defeated Bob Tempalski 12-6, 184lbs. Stephen Terwilliger won by dec. 11-6. In the final bout at 285lbs Beaver’s Wesley Mummert defeated Chris Minarchick, 5-4.
Picking up victories for PSU DuBois via forfeit were:
125 – Nick Bogacki, 133- Josh Kunig, 141-Garrett Zarecky, 157-Shane Alterio, 174-Ryan Terwilliger, 197-Chike Okolo, 235-Anthony Ferguson.
Penn State DuBois wrestling will be back in action on Saturday, Nov. 19th when the host Penn College at Multipurpose Building at 6pm.
Penn State DuBois Wrestling open dual meet season

Penn State DuBois wrestling team competed at the Electric City Duals at Scranton University on Saturday going 3-1 on the day. Coach Park was very pleased with the way the guys competed against good competition this early in the season. DuBois was victorious over Washington & Lee 34-12, Apprentice School 25-21, and host Scranton Univ. 32-12. DuBois dropped the last match of the day to (UMBC) University of Maryland Baltimore County 37-12.
Coach Park stated “The win over Apprentice School was big, they are traditionally one of the best teams in the country. I feel the last match loss to UMBC was a matter of fatigue and some bad luck. This weekend gave us a gage of where we are at as far as conditioning and areas of technique that we need to address.” It’s a great start to a promising season!

Penn State DuBois Wrestlers Compete in National Championships

Macon, GA - The Penn State DuBois wrestling team completed their season by competing in the 14th Annual National Collegiate Wrestling Association (NCWA) Championships hosted at Mercer University in Macon, Georgia, March 10-12. Over 70 teams had representatives at this year’s championships; Penn State DuBois sent eight competitors and finished in 27th place in the team standings with 19 points. DuBois Head Coach Matt Park said he was pleased with the way his athletes competed on the national stage and continues to see improvement and bright futures for his wrestlers.
Leading the way at the NCWA Championships were David Hommell (133lbs) and Ryan Terwilliger (165lbs). Both wrestlers were 3-1 in matches and missed claiming All-American honors by one match. The remaining members of the team at the championships Nick Bogacki (125lbs), Kasey Haines (141lbs), Ty Albright (149lbs), Stephen Terwilliger, Jim Mosher at heavyweight, and Anthony Ferguson at heavyweight.
The NCWA Team Championship was won by California Baptist University with 156.5 points, followed by Grand Valley State with 121points, Central Florida with 99.5 points.

3 PSU DuBois wrestlers qualify for NCWA National championships
Shawn Hall and Jim Mosher won thier respective weight classes on February 27th at the NCWA Mid-East Qualifier at LaFayette College and will compete in the NCWA National Championships on March 11-13 in Hampton, VA. Joining Hall & Mosher will be 2nd place finisher Jeff Smallwood, Coach Matt Park is hopefull that Joe Shields will receive a "wildcard" selection to the championships. Shields was injured in the competition and finished in 4th place, but would be healthy to compete in the NCWA National Championships in two weeks.

PSU DuBois captured the title with 80 team points over host Williamson Trade School with 66.5 pts. Leading the way for the Nittany Lions was 197lb Champion Joe Shields.
