Penn State DuBois Cross Country Runner Earns Medal
Wilkes-Barre - The Penn State DuBois men's and women's Cross Country teams recently opened their 2007 seasons at the Penn State Wilkes-Barre Invitational, and one runner brought home a medal.
The women's team’s number one runner Korry Gluczyk was out due to injury so, the team was led by freshman Katie Baumgratz. Baumgratz, a St Marys High School stand out middle distance runner, was running her first ever cross county race. Katie ran 22:15 over the 3.1 mile course and earned a 3rd place medal. Other Penn State DuBois runners were Liz Costanzo (Cowanesque Valley) finishing in 9th place followed by Mylena Drake (Cowanesque Valley) in 10th place.
Penn State Worthington Scranton was the women's team champion with 23 points followed by Penn College of Technology (2nd place) with 26 points and Penn State DuBois (3rd place) with 34 points.
The Penn State DuBois men's team finished in 5th place overall and was led by freshman Nathan Fronk with a 15th place finish, and a time of 31:08 over the 5.0 mile race. Other Penn State DuBois men included Mike Simpson followed by Jeff Skraba and Dan Reirdon.
Penn College of Technology was the men's team champion with 16 points followed by Penn State Schuylkill with 80 points and Penn State Scranton with 84 points.
Both Penn State DuBois teams are back in action at Luzern County Community College on September 29.
