Harmic Named Public Information Officer at Penn State DuBois
DuBois – Chancellor Anita D. McDonald is pleased to announce that Steve Harmic, of Clearfield, has joined the Penn State DuBois team as the new campus Public Information Officer.
“We are very fortunate to have someone with Steve’s talent and experience join us,” said McDonald.
Harmic comes to Penn State DuBois from WTAJ TV-10, where he spent more than four years covering Central Pennsylvania as a reporter for the Altoona-based television station. A Clearfield native, Harmic worked at the station’s Clearfield Region Bureau in DuBois. During most of his time there, he served as the Clearfield Bureau Chief.
Before working in television, Steve also served as a correspondent for the Courier Express Newspaper in DuBois. He had his first broadcasting experience as an on-air announcer and reporter at the Curwensville-based radio station, WOK!W 102.9 FM.
Steve is a graduate of Clearfield Area High School. He earned a bachelors degree in Journalism, and a minor in American studies at Penn State University. Before completing his course work at the University Park campus, Steve spent three semesters at Penn State DuBois.
“This is a small campus, close to home. That’s what I loved about Penn State DuBois when I was a student, and that hasn’t changed as I return here as a staff member,” Harmic said. “I received a great education at this university, and the opportunity to bring what I’ve learned back to my alma mater is like a dream come true!”
Steve says he looks forward to working with area media outlets and all of the reporters he has come to know during his time in the news business.
“I want to be as accessible as possible,” he says. “I know what it’s like to track down contacts for a story. I plan to be easy to reach when the media needs something.”
Steve lives in Clearfield with his wife, Denise.
