The student athletes must hold a grade point average of 3.5 or greater to be eligible for the Academic All-American status. Penn State DuBois coaches Tharren and Jodee Thompson were honored with the news, saying the achievement speaks for the women's dedication to both academics and athletics.

"It's a wonderful honor for them, being the first year that we were eligible to name people to this team. I hope that in the years that follow there will be many more to come behind them," Jodee Thompson said. "They all love the game of volleyball and would love to play 12 months a year if they could. They have great hearts and with their GPAs, it's obvious they care about their grades and put a good effort forth in keeping up their studies. All three take academics seriously."

Penn State DuBois joined the USCAA in October, giving the branch campus athletes and teams the opportunity for national competitions. The campus remains a member of the Penn State University Athletic Conference, in which they compete against other Penn State campuses in each of their four varsity sports: women's volleyball, men's and women's cross country, and men's basketball. Cross country runner Amy Young of Brookville was named an All-American Athlete earlier this week for her sixth-place finish at the national meet last Friday in Virginia. Men's basketball begins with the Blue and White game exhibition on Nov. 8.
