Frequently Asked Questions

Can the students completing their junior year begin this program in the summer?

Absolutely! We can provide copies of the Summer and Fall schedules for your review. Students who choose to begin in the summer will need to think ahead and schedule for a Fall class as well.

Can a student just call the campus and register?

NO-all students will need to meet with a PSU DuBois Admissions representative prior to enrolling for a course. We realize how quickly this must be done if a student wants to begin this summer, but we are committed to making it happen on our end.

How many courses can a student enroll in each semester?

Students can take one (1) course during the spring semester of their junior year of high school at a 50% tuition reduction.  High school seniors are able to register for up to eight Penn State credits each semester of their senior year including the summer between their junior and senior years of high school.  All credits will be at a 50% tuition reduction.  Students may only continue taking classes as a part of this program if they successfully complete each course with a grade of a 'C' or better in each class.  The final semester a student can take courses through the "Jump Start" program is during the spring semester of their senior year of high school.

This seems like a great deal. What's the catch?

There isn't a catch-and it is a great deal! Students have the opportunity to enroll in up to a total of seven PSU classes while still in high school at a 50% tuition reduction (1 course during their junior year and 2 courses during each the summer, fall, and spring of their senior year). Students earn Penn State credits-transferable to any Penn State location as well as outside the Penn State System.  It is the responsibility of the individual student to check with their school of choice to find out it class credits will transfer.

What courses will students be allowed to enroll in?

Students will benefit most by choosing a course which fulfills a General Education requirement. These tend to be courses which do not have any prerequisite requirements. Students will discuss class opportunities when they meet with the Admission representative. The final decision on whether or not a student will be allowed to enroll in a particular class will be made by Penn State.
